Pros
(Note: I worked at Matician for just short of a year) The best reason to work at Matician is the team - the founders and team were both great. There is a lot to learn from both the founders and other team members. They are very caring and understanding, and took care of their employees throughout the Covid-19 pandemic. Even at the start, they were ahead of the curve by closing down the office and letting everyone work remotely before either the county or state started to take action. It's a great experience for working on cutting-edge problems and state-of-the-art tech from a product-first approach. Continual improvement was part of the job: trying to better understand the underlying technical problems and the current state of the art solutions, then trying to get ahead of them. Healthcare was another good benefit, helping me support my medical needs even through the Covid-19 pandemic. I have strong expectations for Matician going forward. They are working on a great product and I fully expect them to succeed!
Cons
I think the downsides to working at Matician would probably be similar to the downsides of working at most other early-stage startups. Although the founders are understanding, they necessarily push a bit hard on work/life balance in an effort to keep the startup progressing towards product release. You may also find that salary is on the lower side. The whole team took a salary cut at the start of the pandemic to make funding last longer in the worst case scenario. That cut was livable but still a bit demoralizing.
