Pros

Maybe 2-3 years ago, fairly helpful. Now, absolutely horrible.

Cons

I worked on and off with Medicus the last few years. During that time, I have watched them deteriorate in a multitude of ways. They promise to get you a competitive rate, they don’t. Once, they brought me in for below market rate for an experienced Hospitalist. It was only supposed to be for a month or two ‘until I prove myself.’ Never happened. If your recruiter is assigned to area X, that’s where you go. I personally know Medicus Doc working Hospitals driving distance from my house. They were determined to send me to the middle of nowhere Georgia bc it would make them money and that was my recruiter’s spot to fill. So, that’s where I went. In over 2 years they found me zero jobs in my home state. I lost count of all the Hospitals I’ve worked for other (far better) Locums groups that had Medicus docs. I brought this up many, many times and was either given a flimsy excuse, or just ignored. Travel coordinator and Credentialing ppl- Embarrassingly abysmal. I constantly had to have my own office manager get involved and do their jobs for them. I should have seen the writing on the wall when I kept getting assigned a new recruiter. Their turnover rate is well beyond all the other groups I work with for a reason. My former recruiters have told me flat out what myself and other locums docs will confirm- They treat their ppl, especially docs, like trash. In Medicus’ eyes- Locums docs only exist for Medicus to make money off of our sweat. They are dedicated to paying you the least amount possible and will most likely not find you viable work anyway. My most recent locums gig (definitely not from Medicus)- Driving distance from my house, competitive rate, major medical center, hotel/car provided if I need it. Any problems, just pick up the phone and they’re incredibly helpful. Ive worked that job for over a year (15-20 shifts/month) and still get called back here and there. Just booked some shifts for next month. Medicus has found me zero work in about 2 years. The latest job, I actually found bc I had a good relationship with the ppl that run that program and heard they needed help. Again, why am I doing Medicus’ job for them? When I asked them that question, they actually gave me attitude about their incompetence. How do you make a company money and then they treat you with a temper tantrum and such disrespect. In all my years, I’ve never had to fire a recruiter. I fired that guy. I’ve been full time locums for over 3 years. I have 3 state licenses. I work big city hospitals, small towns, and everything in between. I have never, not once ever, encountered such incompetence, greed, and staggering unprofessionalism. I can’t stress this enough- Avoid Medicus like the plague.

Pros

Good compensation Excellent training Supportive management

Cons

Cut-throat environment, competing with other recruiters for same "clients" essentially. If you're not 100% invested in their mission, it'll be tough to stick around.
