Pros

Ability to work remote. Good amount of PTO.

Cons

When I started at MFA it was a fun, creative, innovative work environment. The organization was making very real changes in the farmed animal space. Undercover investigations were released often, lawsuits against animal abusers were filed, and corporate victories were frequent. Furthermore, the leadership of the organization supported the mission and empowered employees. Over time the organization’s culture crumbled. There were sexual harassment scandals and constant leadership shakeups. To make matters worse, MFA’s founder and current board President has created a culture of fear. In one full sweep he removed the leadership that cared about employees and the mission, and replaced them all with corporate cronies who could care less about making difference for farmed animals. What’s more, this current leadership laid off staff while giving themselves raises and promotions, and have furthered Milo’s culture of fear. Additionally, the HR department and current President failed to take action when an American employee made blatant racist remarks about staff in Mexico on an organizational wide call. They also dragged their feet when multiple staffers filed complaints about another staffer who assisted a known sexual predator spy on his victims. Quite frankly, it’s appalling that a social justice group would allow these things to occur. During my time at MFA I watched countless devoted activists who cared deeply about making a change for animals be bullied, harassed, lied to, and essentially pushed out of the movement. Current leadership is power hungry, egotistical, and self serving. If you care about helping animals I would NOT recommend working at MFA ... I honestly don’t even think anyone in leadership cares about the mission — including MFA’s founder, Milo Runkle.

MFA appreciates honest feedback and employer reviews from all current and former team members. Unfortunately, this review gives an inaccurate impression that we would like to correct. A recent survey of our team members indicated that the majority of team members feel motivated and supported by their teams, team leaders, and leadership. It is misleading to state that “current leadership laid off staff while giving themselves raises and promotions.” A very small number of positions were eliminated from the new organizational structure to better align our focus and to work toward our strategic goals within budget constraints. Additionally, a small number of team members, across all levels of the organization, were promoted and received small market increases. MFA prioritizes pay equity, and compensation analysis is an ongoing process to ensure we are paying fair and competitive wages. MFA has and will always take very seriously any claims of racism or harassment, including opening investigations where appropriate and taking action, including disciplinary action up to termination. Milo Runkle is a well-known and respected farmed animal advocate. All members of the MFA leadership team are vegan and passionate about animal rights and welfare. Yes, it is true that some of our newer leaders come to us with impressive business backgrounds - a strategic move on our part to align our values and mission with the business acumen and know-how to execute our strategic plan successfully, with the ultimate goal being to create a world where animals are respected, protected, and free to pursue their own interests. We wish all former team members the best in the next chapter of their journey. MFA is and will continue to be a leader in the farmed animal rights movement, thanks to our passionate team members and supporters.

Pros

-good healthcare benefits -really liked my team, great people -mission driven and everyone genuinely believes in it

Cons

There are some things you notice once you join the organization as with anywhere but nothing glaringly stands out. Maybe fyi to those applying that it is a very EA oriented organization so all programs will be aligned with that funding stream.

Pros

Working for a great mission. Feeling like I'm making a difference.

Cons

RIFs have changed the organization for the worse. Morale is at an all time low. Leadership stay in their bubbles and make decisions without transparency. No communication. Sad that a once mighty organization has begun to fall, even under a new CEO.
