Pros
-Newer office in Detroit. -I know everything I don't want in an employer.
Cons
It's a wonder this nightmarish workplace is still operating. Michigan.com continues to rot from the inside out and it is painful to see kind former coworkers get squashed by the corruption, negativity and evil, mean-spirited people in charge. Management is absolutely poisonous to work under. My manager's hatred of me eventually became so apparent, it was noticed by a new employee (multiple times). All I did was work to make this person happy and they made it their mission to punish me and make me miserable daily. Upon starting, you will quickly realize that a handful of employees set the standards and are constantly given more opportunities than others. Some favorites get to work from home 3 days a week, some don't work at all on Fridays, some get to choose whether or not they get to excuse themselves from meaningless meetings; some get to park in the nice garage attached to the building while every other employee walks 6 blocks from the other garage; the list goes on. Employees of all ranks have the world expected of them, but are given, quite literally, no resources with which they can achieve this. Good luck getting the work of a 10-person team done in a day and still being expected to answer calls/emails at night and on vacations AND have every small detail of your work scrutinized so acutely that, finally, the only option you have is to hate yourself on top of all that. Do you like: having to get emails approved before sending? Work here. Being told what particular type of personality and tone you need to have before every meeting? Go ahead, apply. Getting cut-off and picked on during meetings you were asked to lead? Be my guest, work here. Having projects with entirely absurd deadlines dropped on your desk? Go for it. Michigan.com is a thankless, cruel place that brought my work-related anxiety to new, monumentally high levels. In the time it took me to write this, I can personally guarantee 3 people have quit Michigan.com and another 5 are about to be laid off. If there was a way to give Michigan.com 0 stars I would. Remember: run - don't walk - from this place.
