Pros
* Lots of interesting work in kernels/perf/compilers, learning + skill acquisition encouraged, imo one of the best companies in the world to jumpstart a career in AI infra * Incredible coworkers, culture of collaboration + encouragement, can't think of anyone I've ever worked with who seems incompetent or selfish * Base pay + bonus + benefits are all FANG-level * Good WLB and flexible schedules, have many coworkers with kids who take time off during the workday for school pickups, family time, etc. * Company is doing incredibly well so far, reached unicorn status in just a few years, strong possibility of getting millions when company IPOs * Genuinely interesting work * WFH supported (this is big for me)
Cons
* Company is small enough that certain processes are not well-defined (most importantly, promos + calibrations) * Drama/office politics at the upper levels can be felt by ICs in small ways * Company would have to be massively successful at IPO to offset personal financial loss from years of not working at FANG, "millions of dollars at IPO" sounds nice but is the same as working at FANG for years * "Golden handcuffs" from waiting for options to vest and waiting for IPO, each year spent not working at FANG is a huge financial loss
