Pros
I've been in pet care for over ten years, spending the last six+ at MAI and I owe the majority of my industry knowledge to the managers, owners and coworkers there. They greatly value the importance of a knowledgeable and passionate staff and strive to foster both qualities in every staff member. MAI is perfect for a wide range of people. From a high school or college kid looking for a part time or seasonal job for after school, weekends and breaks to a someone like myself looking to make a career in the pet care industry. There are a few different departments in which you can find your place, I myself started in Guest Services, moved to Group Play, became an Activities Team Leader and then Activities Supervisor. When life changed and I started a family, I took some time off and returned to MAI where they worked with me to find a position within the company that would best suit my needs. I would have never left MAI if I didn't leave the state!
Working with dogs, cats (and clients!) is hard work but the Morris family does everything they can to provide a ton notch work environment. The managers are awesome, and the staff are some of the funniest, smartest, most dedicated, enjoyable people to work with.
Cons
You have to have realistic expectations if you are entering the pet care industry. You have to work nights, weekends, holidays and in bad weather. The pets need you! If you are not interested in that type of schedule this is not the industry for you. This is not a con, just the truth. MAI managers are always 100% upfront about this during the interview process.
