Pros
It's clear staff is passionate about what they do (most of them anyways). And the folks who work directly in conservationism/fish/wildlife are great, hardworking people who are actively making our state a better place. There's some good changes coming down the pipeline as this agency *tries* to modernize its internal and external practices.
Cons
Unfortunately, this agency is run by dinosaurs (cc: a very non-diverse, appointed $$ board of commissioners) who have way too much influence over how we operate and wildlife-related rules and regulations. There is little work-life flexibility in the Raleigh office. Field staff have way more freedom, which feels unfair. As for pay - it's state government. What can you expect!
