Pros

Some very talented education professionals (too bad they don't last)

Cons

Though my experience at NTK wasn't particularly pleasant and didn't last very long, I never intended to come here and complain about it. The workplace culture in HK is pretty bad overall, and NTK's is no different. NTK is just one more crappy company on a very very long list, so why bother? What made me change my mind, however, was the fact that it appears several COVID-19 cases have been reported to Management in recent months, and while this is a fairly common occurrence in HK these days, the disturbing part is that the rest of the company was not made aware of these outbreaks. Based on what I've been told, everyone seems to be talking about these cases behind the scenes and they're all just waiting for instructions from their bosses, who have yet to make any official announcements and put in place the appropriate measures to prevent the spread. In short, the company has done nothing to protect the health of its employees in the midst of a pandemic. Who knows how many people may have contracted the virus at NTK while the company stood idly by hoping for it to just go away. This is reckless behavior of the worst possible kind. I am not sure whether the company can be held liable for this, but I wanted to do my part and warn potential job seekers to stay away from this company if you value your well-being. Management never lived up to my expectations and I questioned their decisions more than once, but this is perhaps their most disturbing decision-making yet. Despite their poor reputation, honest to God I never thought they would sink this low. Even my bff's employer, a loan company based in SSP with a shady reputation and questionable background, sent its employees home the very same day a case was reported while disinfection measures were carried out. Again, I don't want to understate the seriousness of this situation. Folks there are being intentionally exposed to the virus, potentially having their lives put at serious risk. This is far from OK and I sincerely hope that the relevant authorities will step in to hold those in charge responsible. Given the seriousness of the pandemic situation in HK, NTK's practices are also an affront to the community, to common sense, and to the city's efforts to get this thing under control.

Pros

- colleagues are nice and friendly - some students are nice

Cons

- you cannot decide which days to take for your annual leave. they decided it for you and you cannot switch it after all, even though they said you could - work ends at 8pm even on mid-autumn festival, Christmas eve and you have no time to celebrate with your loved ones - repetitive non-teaching duties that require you to finish them within tight deadlines. if you have to teach 24/7, you need to finish them in your spare time - no time to prepare for class and again, you need to do that when you return home after 8pm or even on holidays due to the busy teaching schedule - you do not have the time to even go to the toilet for the whole day and to drink water when your schedule is full. students do not know that classes are ended 5 minutes early - teaching hours can be manipulated and you cannot get the bonus after all - you are forced to work for extra hours with no compensation because you have to obey the company rules

Pros

Competitive Base Compensation: The pay is fair and the salary is reliable. For the hours you are physically teaching, the remuneration is good. Smart Students: Interacting with high-achieving students can be stimulating. When a lesson clicks, it's rewarding. Practical Training: You receive comprehensive instruction on the specific exam syllabuses, marking schemes, and common student pitfalls. The training gives you immediate confidence in the classroom.

Cons

Administrative work: A portion of the job involves administrative tasks, including mandatory student progress tracking and lesson materials update. Managing this alongside a packed teaching schedule, especially during exam period, requires careful time management. Limited Schedule Flexibility: Though it is not a problem for me, the core teaching hours are evenings and Saturdays to match student availability. This may not suit everyone's desired working schedule, though it does allow for free time on weekday days.
