Pros
Hard work is recognized by both peers and senior level staff at The National Investor ("TNI"). The small size of the firm ensures you're not just another nameless face. This is compounded by the collegial atmosphere - everyone knows everyone here, and makes efforts to be friendly. Makes coming to work a lot easier when your environment is so supportive. Additionally, management is easy going and committed to staff professional development. The generalist nature of most jobs at TNI allow people to sample different industry groups. TNI is great place to start one's career due to the opportunities for growth it provides.
Cons
I found that compensation was consistently below market average at The National Investor. Management usually went through an extensive salary reivew process that would take approximately a year. Given the high inflation in the United Arab Emirates, by the time you received your salary increment it was already out of date and the market average had usually moved another 10-20% higher.
Management also tended to be slow to change - their approach to dealing with problems was reactive, not proactive, so by the time that corrective measures were being taken, chances were that the firm was already in the eye of the storm. Further, non-C-suite staff was often not even aware of what company strategy was!
