Pros
Low cost of living in Pafos, Cyprus. Laid back environment, low competition.
Only worth to consider employment there as an intermediate step for 1-2 years, until a better opportunity arises (see cons below).
Cons
High teaching and administrative load and minimal support for research. Most decisions are taken by middle management, non-academic staff without experience in higher education. There is no equality and transparency in benefits and career development. There are nepotism and promotion only of the people who support the managers narrowly defined personal interests, or are their friends/family. This affects day to day activities as well as long term career development. Awful culture of corruption and execution of one's duties only when there is personal gain. Moreover, duties are not well defined and academics often need to make up for low-performance non-academic staff, devoting valuable time above and beyond their duties.
Finally, there is a number of practices of questionable ethics and disregard for the law without serious repercussions due to political coverage.
