Excellent working culture with huge growth potential! - Product Consultant NoMuda VisualFactory Employee Review

Pros

Great "small company" culture and completely beats, hands down, working at a a big company. The team working there are clever, caring and driven and end up becoming good friends. Everyone is working hard on making things better and better...there is 0 time or proclivity for politics. Conflict is generally constructive and more the clash of ideas than a clash of egos or politics....which is always a good sign. Taking on huge companies while working in a barn has a glorious charm to it. The CEO is exceptionally bright and "gets his hands dirty" deep in the technical mines often.

Cons

The company is going through "growing pains" and so processes and systems tend to change quickly. If you like rule-bound work with clear processes and structure....NoMuda is not (currently) the place for you

Pros

NoMuda is a small but growing company with good people and a great software product. Junior developers will enjoy a leisurely introduction into the software industry and will undoubtedly gain a lot from contributing to a world-class manufacturing system, however staff retention is a problem at NoMuda and many are not motivated to commit to a lengthy service here.

Cons

Staff retention is a problem. NoMuda has ambitious growth plans however growth has been, and will continue to be, hindered by the CEO who rarely delegates to his experienced team. Most, if not all, product decisions require his personal involvement and sign-off and this has been a growing bottleneck for years. Software specifications take the form of hastily prepared PowerPoint slides which rarely provide sufficient detail. These are prepared by the CEO who simply doesn't have the time for all the duties he is bestowing on himself. NoMuda is run more like a family than a business, and if you don't particularly share the passions of the owners (dogs, country life, model planes, scuba diving and clay pigeon shooting) you may find it difficult to gel with them. The company needs to relocate to sustain growth (it is currently based in a remote barn conversion on an active farm) however the possible choices of local premises is being dictated by their suitability for walking the dogs or flying model planes nearby.

Hello, thank you for your feedback! I'm really glad you liked working on our product. We are proud of it and our customers love it. This is one of the reasons we have had some of the "Growing pains" you experienced, we have become more successful than we could have predicted 5 years ago. The development of the business is ongoing and we are aware that there is more to do. As an example of the lessons we have learned, there is now a full-time HR Manager to help with people and a dedicated Scrum Master to improve how our developers work. In terms of the building, we have recently acquired more space at the site and there are more plans on the way our General Manager is looking into. We are very lucky to have ample parking here which we like, rather than making our employees pay for parking in Stratford for example. We are committed to continuing to make positive steps to be a great place to work and are always seeking like-minded people to help us achieve this.
