Pros

There are a lot of good people here and if you are lucky to get a good line manager then they will shield you from the chaotic internal politics that seem to leave the organisation in a permanent state of dysfunction. In theory, there are a wide range of opportunities due to the wide spectrum of capabilities within the company, but the reality is that you are left on your own and no thought is given to how your skills could help across the wider company. Flexible working is available, but there is very little consideration for home workers so you will find yourself left out of any events or perks which happen at an office (eg food wagons). You will need to make the effort if you want to be involved even if there is no real benefit to being in the office for your role.

Cons

The organisation is struggling to merge the workings of multiple acquisitions and in trying to appease different groups have only succeeded in building resentment and deepening the divide between the different parts of the organisation. As a result there is too much churn at a senior/board level (3 MD's in 2 years for the Digital Practice) and as such, there is no clear strategy for the business. The lack of any form of diversity at board level is embarrassing for a modern company in 2025 and really doesn't reflect the wider workforce... If you are not part of the "main groups" then you are left to your own devices with no support or clear path for personal development so prepare to be forgotten about. (No contact with my line manager for the past 6 months...) Development reviews are rare, pay increases even rarer and even then they are way below inflation and the increasing cost of living. Disparity in levels of salary and benefits across the organisation following acquisition of companies.

Pros

Some of the people are nice, but most have left or been removed

Cons

Node4 presents itself as a modern IT services provider, but internally it still operates with a legacy data centre mindset. While the market moves rapidly towards AI, automation and outcome-based services, the company’s commercial thinking feels stuck in the past. Acquisitions were meant to modernise the business. In practice, integration is weak. Newly acquired capabilities are absorbed into an unchanged operating model instead of reshaping it. Rather than building a coherent, future-focused portfolio, the same legacy approach is applied across everything. Specialist and consultative services are treated like commoditised infrastructure. Differentiation is diluted. When growth expectations are missed, the response is restructuring rather than confronting the underlying strategy. Roles are cut, teams reduced, and knowledge leaves — but little fundamentally changes. Culturally, influence is uneven. Long-standing relationships with the founder carry weight, informal networks matter, and accountability is inconsistent. For those outside established circles, driving change or challenging entrenched thinking can feel futile. Externally, the language is transformation and growth. Internally, resistance to change is strong. The result is slow decisions, fragmented accountability and limited agility. There are capable people in the business, but without real structural change, the company risks remaining a legacy provider wearing a modern badge. Prospective employees and customers should approach with clear eyes.
