Pros

- Nice environment & friendly people to work with - Nice office, cool location, nice features in the office e.g table tennis & coffee machine - Lots of learning & working with other departments closely - Young company, hence lots of opportunities to grow and work on different projects

Cons

- Difficult to communicate about work related issues in-house - Difficult to communicate about personal issues - Difficult to provide feedback to management & senior management - Pressure to work overtime - Favouritism & nepotism a factor - Self development isn't valued as much - Personally in customer experience, you feel quite left out and not as important as the other departments. I believe this is mainly due to the fact that you have less of an impact towards the company. You are put under pressure to come up with a resolution to any problems you present to senior management, which is quite difficult to balance when you're working against SLA's.

One Retail Group Response

Thank you for your comments. I’d like to take this opportunity to address your points, as we take feedback seriously here at One Retail Group. We are pleased that you enjoy the work environment and the team at 1RG. As you have mentioned, there are lots of opportunities to grow with the business, and this is led by our values of progressing our star talent. Your feedback is greatly appreciated and will be fed back to the wider team. We are sad to hear that you don’t feel you have been able to provide feedback to management. We strive to provide all team members with the forum to discuss concerns with various managers across the business and although we feel we have provided this support, we apologise if we have fallen short of your expectation. 1RG focuses heavily on work-life balance, as such we intend on establishing if this is an issue with other team members within an upcoming team engagement survey. Thank you for bringing this to our attention. Occasionally we ask team members to use their creative juices to problem solve before escalating to department leads. We feel this is the right approach and we will continue to provide the required support to individuals, so they feel empowered to make decisions / judgement calls moving forward. Regarding favouritism, although we don’t feel this is a true reflection of our values, we can understand that within the team you worked in, there were various promotions which occurred and as such, may have felt that you hadn’t had the opportunity to progress. We work with our high performers to progress into new roles, and in some instances certain team members progress faster than others. As previously mentioned, we take feedback seriously and with the introduction of a ‘People team’ within the business, the areas you have raised will be looked into. We wish you all the best for the future.

Pros

I’ve been here for a number of years now in product development, and while it’s not always been easy, it’s definitely been worth it. It’s a demanding place with high expectations, fast pace, and very little hand-holding, however, if you’re someone who likes autonomy and can get things done, it’s an environment where you’ll definitely be trusted and can thrive. Hard work definitely gets noticed here and I’ve been given real responsibility and have grown a lot, both professionally and personally. But, I’ve also witnessed people struggle when they’re not aligned with the culture. If you need structure or constant guidance, this probably isn’t the right place. For me, it’s a 5 star experience because it matches how I have always liked to work. I’d recommend it to people who are genuinely self-driven and comfortable being challenged.

Cons

A sink or swim mentality which works for me but others may find a struggle if they are used to having their hand held.

Pros

Weekly fruits. 2 days of working from home.

Cons

There’s so much favouritism—people aren’t treated as valued team members at all. It’s obviously not a fair place to work. You’ll see a lot of fake behaviours: people act warm and polite in front of others, then turn around and gossip hard behind their backs. The company seems to be trying to build processes, but in reality, there’s no real structure or transparency. Line managers don’t know how to lead, and senior managers don’t know how to manage the managers either. It’s chaos. As for emotional stability—forget it. From middle to senior levels, it’s full of people who can’t handle pressure or control their emotions. Last year, the CEO talked about various company visions, but none of them were about people or culture. It’s all about profit, being ‘agile,’ working harder, and cutting costs. Since my first month, I heard about people leaving every single month. Someone was always quitting or being pushed out. The turnover rate is ridiculously high. If you’re looking for a place with stability, fairness, or respectful leadership—this isn’t it.
