Pros

Good onboarding, and I met nice coworkers there

Cons

It was shocking to realize that a company that sells e-learning employs just a couple of instructional designers. Almost no one there actually understands adult learning theory and instructional design principles. - In June 2023, we heard from the CEO that the company was doing well. Five months later, on November 8, they laid off 15% of their workforce, including me, at a surprise meeting in the middle of the day. - There are some weird practices, such as the requirement to send a daily email to the CEO and other leaders during the first 30 days of employment. After that period, we were still required to send weekly emails. - There was a lot of "just because" busy work. - Waste of time and resources, like the all-hands-on-deck meeting where a slide deck was brainstormed, slide by slide, via Zoom, syncronously, by all the employees. - Elementary school environment.

Pros

OpenSesame is a great place to work if you value collaboration, growth, and purpose. The culture is genuinely supportive- people care about each other’s success and well-being. Leadership invests in employee development, which makes it easy to keep learning and advancing. The company’s position in the market is strong, with a product that makes a real impact. It’s a fast-moving environment, but one where people look out for each other and take pride in doing meaningful work.

Cons

Like any growing company, things move quickly and priorities can shift, so you have to be adaptable.
