Pros

Rapidly growing company where you will learn a lot of new info really quick. Ability to learn from highly successful people. Lots of opportunity for personal development.

Cons

The company may have grown fast, but it’s still a startup at its core, which makes it almost impossible to deal with the volume while trying to define and establish systems and processes. Processes that do exist are overcomplicated, stemming from a lack of planning periods, an ongoing sense of urgency, and lack of critical team feedback/buy-in. Lots of blockers in upper management to be able to make any real lasting changes. Job roles are also often not well defined. Lots of micromanaging. SO MANY MEETINGS THAT COULD’VE BEEN EMAILS. Many departments work way over 40 hours a week. I received late night emails and Slacks more often than not, typically for time-sensitive items. It can be extremely stressful. Internal communication between departments is a joke. If you need something and aren’t constantly Slacking or emailing the person AND copying their boss, you’ll never hear back from them. No bonuses or 401k match (they’ve been hyping up an “upcoming” match coming for at least a year now). Instead they’ll send you a pair of custom PLACE shoes for Christmas** that you don’t want. (**that actually didn't even arrive until 6 months later)

Pros

PLACE is full of kind, driven, hardworking, and growth-minded people. Ideas are shared freely, collaboration is a daily habit, and I can't think of a single person who isn't always happy to help at a moment's notice. No matter where they fall in the organizational structure, I can feel comfortable reaching out to anyone and know that I'll be met with a kind and friendly response. While all startups offer daily learning opportunities simply by nature of being startups, what makes PLACE unique is the purposeful striving for learning, teaching, and growing, both personally and professionally. I don't just learn new information or processes - I learn new ways of thinking, doing, and being that no other workplace has ever taught me, which is one of my favorite things about this company and what keeps me engaged and excited.

Cons

Tools and processes are often pushed out with little to no notice to employees, so we're left scrambling to learn and operationalize while at the same time our partners are getting excited and wanting us to teach them about it. The interviewing and hiring process takes weeks. I appreciate the in-depth screening that we do, and it seems to have a high success rate of finding the right fit, but the lengthy process can be a turnoff to candidates. Bottlenecks occur regularly - even something like a promotion or pay raise has to be approved at the very top, which can take a very long time. Leaders are busy and seem to be spread very thin.
