Pros

One of the best training programs around. If you are starting with little to no insurance background, it’s astounding how much you learn through training and the job experience itself. The coworkers, especially the ones alongside you in the role, are some of the most amazing folks you will meet in your career/life. There is opportunity for growth, especially personal growth: by advocating for members, you ultimately learn how to be your own advocate. Join the MA role for the experience but have a plan in place to move forward in your career, whether it’s within another dept at Pure or elsewhere.

Cons

Please Note: There is a seemingly stark difference between the MA Dept/claims and other depts at the company. Many are in love with Pure and their roles within the company. The same cannot be said for many within the MA role. As an MA, you are constantly reminded of how important the role is. You are told you are the backbone of the company, being that you are the frontline workers assisting membership at times they need you the most. Yet you are expected to overextend yourself in order to remain that strong backbone, by whatever means necessary (work through lunch breaks, work past your service hours, work on the weekends [and this does not include the mandatory weekend shifts you have to work quarterly]). The greatest issue with the role is that it is structured in a way that suited the company when it first began but no longer suits the company as it continues to grow. The company is growing but the department is shrinking which paves the highway to burnout for those left in the role. And emphasis needs to be made on the fact that this is a claims role: high volume, high importance (in addition to high net worth clientele). This is a fast-paced, multi-tasking work environment on steroids. Especially if you appreciate doing a job well done, there is little to no work/life balance in this role. And though the work itself is rewarding in the sense that you are assisting others and trying to make them whole again after a loss, the high volume of work you have to do makes it so that you rarely leave the workday feeling a sense of satisfaction. And given that this is a salaried position, you can easily end up working up to 15-20 hours overtime without receiving any compensation or acknowledgement for it. There is an emphasis on culture, but in hindsight it is more of a cult mindset.
