Pros

* Meaningful Impact: I love that my work is immediately tangible! Pano is on a mission to make a real difference by helping firefighters, governments, and industry leaders combat wildfires swiftly. This not only protects communities and ecosystems but also saves lives while reducing pollution, smoke, and carbon emissions. Unlike some other tech companies, we're not just developing technology for the sake of it; we engage in thoughtful discussion and debate on what kinds of technology will truly make a difference for providing actionable wildfire intelligence. * Fast-Paced Environment: Every day is an opportunity for us to put out more fires, and so we all move very quickly. You’ll learn an incredible amount of information every week, and you’ll rapidly hone many skills that you didn’t have before. While it may not be for everyone, if you're ready to roll up your sleeves and tackle real-world challenges head-on, I genuinely believe that this is the place to be. * Deep Collaboration: I love how team-oriented all of us are here! At Pano, titles and functions take a back seat to collaboration & partnership. We operate in a deeply collaborative environment where everyone's contributions are sought, respected, and celebrated. We're not afraid to iterate rapidly, we’re all empowered to ask questions, and nothing is set in stone. I have fantastic partnerships with counterparts in Engineering, Operations, Customer Success, Finance, Legal/Compliance, and more - I truly enjoy every minute that I spend working alongside each of them. * Hands-On Leadership: I’ve been absolutely floored by the humility of the leadership team at Pano; I’ve literally never seen this level of engagement anywhere else that I’ve worked. They're not afraid to get their hands dirty and dive into the front lines. Whether it's installing cameras, conducting data analyses, or writing code, they jump in to tackle the work & to support the team when unexpected customer growth demands it. * Strong Community: Senior leadership at Pano cares deeply about building a close-knit community. In our regular Company All Hands, we hear exactly what’s on the minds of our leadership team, both the successes and the challenges. And, every Monday, everyone of every seniority sits down at the same table to eat lunch together. Some of my favorite conversations at Pano happened at these lunches! For example, a couple of weeks ago I chatted with the CEO about upcoming vacations and about new tech trends. And just last week, I chatted with the CCO about favorite sports teams and about top-of-mind customer needs. * Work-Life Integration: We're trusted as responsible adults to manage our own working hours. That means we have the flexibility to handle personal commitments such as taking the family to the zoo, running errands, and spending quality time with kids. We typically work from home for 3-4 days out of the work week, and we have quite a bit of flexibility in how we set up our at-home workstations. And, big shout out to my manager: he genuinely cares about my mental and physical well-being, and he’s deeply thoughtful in setting priorities and adjusting deadlines so that I can work sustainably over the long run.

Cons

We’re all deeply committed to the mission of driving climate adaptation, and there are times when it demands extra effort, including occasional late nights and weekends. To clarify, this is never an expectation, but rather a reflection of our dedication to serving high-impact customers like the Washington State Department of Natural Resources. While these periods of intense workload aren't the norm, it's vital that you’re prepared for them. (And of course, if you do need to burn the midnight oil, your manager is usually quite happy to help you find some upcoming time to rest up and take a few days off on PTO!) If you’d prefer to stick to predictably rigorous 9-to-5 working hours, this likely isn’t the place for you. It's also worth noting that we’re trailblazers in a novel industry (fire tech) that is attracting quite a lot of customer attention and investor attention, and that means that agility & adaptability take precedence over structured guidance & rigid guardrails. This environment may not be the ideal fit for those who prefer well-defined structures and clear directives. Many times, you’ll need to chart your own course and take the lead in ambiguous & novel situations; you’ll be making decisions and judgment calls based on rapidly-evolving contexts, and there’s definitely no “single right answer.” If you prefer certainty and you prefer not to revisit past decisions, Pano is likely not your cup of tea.

Pros

Awesome work culture even from a remote worker. Everyone at Pano cares from the bottom up all the way to the customers. Hearing how the technology impacts communities and saves lives is inspiring no matter how many times you hear it. Can’t speak to politics but it’s easy to tone out the noise when you focus on delivering a great product

Cons

startups are fast paced so it takes some time to get up to speed

Pros

- Great mission, product-market fit - Friendly and smart team (the folks actually doing the work)

Cons

- CEO is blatantly insecure, paranoid, micromanaging, controlling, and reactive. A ton of energy wasted just in managing her reactions. No room for diversity of thought; she fires people who disagree with her or see different data, rather than drawing from multiple perspectives or sharing good reasoning for decisions - Fear-driven culture — many leaders just go along with things even if they privately disagree - In certain parts of the company, no support for growth due to leadership chaos - Low-performing teams due to leadership bottlenecks and thrash. Leadership process still immature in setting goals and running performance process - Getting basic tools that are industry standard for other products, take forever because leadership is so fear-driven. Innovation pace is slow
