Pros
PatientPay is that intersection of the high demand fintech market (patient billing), mobile/cloud technology, and a small startup where you will make an impact. Talk about a resume builder! If you like writing and supporting bleeding edge, mobile responsive web apps and email/text communication on AWS cloud, this is your home. Your code is used directly by patients every day to help them understand and pay their medical bills. Not many places allow you to stay that close to the end user. Our customers love our solution because they collect 40% on average which is huge. Candidly, we have a lot of code to write in the areas of analytics, reporting and automating onboarding. These are fun problems to have. Anyone that is driven to improve their respective areas, improve our technology, and grow our customer base is given autonomy. Remote work is fully embraced by the company, and we gather at the Durham office for planning or celebrating our growth. We are a diverse organization. The organization is very flat which means everyone's got a seat at the table if they want to bring fresh ideas.
Cons
If you're uncomfortable with a rapid pace, having your skills tested with a wide range of responsibility, and don't love writing software, it's probably not your thing. A software startup comes with the responsibility of prioritizing the success of the customer and meeting the financial goals of the company over anything else. The fintech companies that don't do this are having massive layoffs right now. Individuals that struggled here couldn't communicate effectively, meet their own deadlines, or just get the job done. We're family friendly but hold each other accountable.
