Pros

Company mission is great. Everyone is excited about making an impact on the American healthcare system, and there is a lot of knowledge in the organization thanks to the talented employees. Because of this dedication to hiring (every employee must go through a culture screen), everyone is friendly and open to learning more. Other typical start-up perks: free cold brew on tap, Bevi machine, healthy snacks in the kitchen, open floor office, monthly health and wellness benefit.

Cons

Engineering management is completely out of touch and fail to recognize how many talented people they have. Product has no respect for engineers and expects them to bend over backwards and grant them all their wishes. Leadership hammers on the company mission and values to convince people to stay, but don't acknowledge the long hours that go into making the product what it is. Because of this, motivation is starting to tailspin. On top of weak leadership, compensation packages are lacking compared to other Boston tech companies. Along with the below-market salaries, benefits are subpar: • Health insurance is mediocre at best (ironic, isn't it?). • No 401K matching. • What's the point of offering unlimited vacation when people are passive-aggressively shamed into not taking time off? Anytime compensation is brought up, a flood of excuses are given. At the same time, the company has celebrations about how well they are doing financially. Looking at career growth, engineers go by years with no promotion and no clear career path. No matter how well an engineer performs, or how great of an impact something their work has, they are often ignored. Why do your best work when it doesn't matter at all?

Pros

One of the reasons I chose PatientPing was because I came from a really mission-driven culture and I wanted more of that at my next company. I'm happy to report I was right about PP in that regard. There are nerf guns but they're used at a rate that it isn't annoying. Fun place to work, but still work focused. No bro culture here, which as someone who is new to startups this early stage I was relieved to see. Executive leadership really seems to listen to employees. When I started the CEO asked me about how I viewed the culture here because he genuinely wanted to know what we appeared to be to someone on the outside. I appreciated the gesture - he brought it up (anonymously) in a company wide meeting. One item I had mentioned was how quiet the floor was - this is something I've seen echoed. It's not silent, but most days you would be hard pressed to have a call with anything remotely confidential on the floor. The upshot here is that you never need to grab a conference room to concentrate.

Cons

The downside to a quiet floor is that you DO need a conference room for calls. Right now its easy enough to get a room, but I think as the company grows it will get difficult to get conference room space.
