Pros
Students are truly amazing and there are supportive staff (not leadership) that mentor and guide them. There are some individuals that have worked at Paul Quinn and some that still do that are great individuals that care about helping students. So many great people have left the institution because of leadership, but they oftentimes leave a positive mark.
Cons
BEWARE: If you are considering employment at Paul Quinn College, I urge you to read this review before making a decision that may impact your career and well-being. Working at Paul Quinn College may seem like an attractive opportunity, given the institution's reputation in higher education, but the reality is far from what you might expect. The toxic work culture at the college is a cause for concern, with employees being exploited and fired for daring to challenge the President's authority. Even the students refer to him as a dictator. The President runs the school with an iron fist, leaving little room for employee autonomy, and discourages discussions about salaries, making it difficult for employees to assess their worth in the organization. It is not just the President who is problematic, but the entire cabinet as well. The Chief of Staff has a history of throwing people under bus if they are disliked by her. It is a red flag when the Chief of Staff from an institution is disliked and not trusted by anyone, as that person is supposed to advocate for staff. The work culture at Paul Quinn College is toxic that many employees have ended up in therapy to cope with the stress. The President makes MORE THAN THE PRESIDENT OF THE U.S. (google for yourself) while the college is struggling financially, and he blames the students for the school's financial problems. The situation is not any better for students, as they are aware of the culture of the school and are unfortunately impacted by the high turnover rate. The social life at the college is virtually non-existent, and the President's behavior towards students is erratic and unpleasant at times. While there are some positives to be found at Paul Quinn College, such as the students and some dedicated staff members who are committed to the school's mission, if you're not a staff favorite, you'll likely experience micromanagement and constant scrutiny. And if I have not said enough, PLEASE read all the reviews before this one. Every single one was right and my biggest regret is not listening to them. So many people that have worked here have ended up in therapy to cope with the stress. Don’t be another one.
