Pros

*Nice new office in Yaletown *Remote work is an option

Cons

PayByPhone fosters an immature and unprofessional work culture coupled with an extremely poor leadership workforce that lacks insight, maturity, skills and professionalism to lead teams and company. A company with an extremely poor track record of retaining staff beyond a year or two, largely because of poor pay, poor hiring practices and a very unhappy workforce, despite "having fun" being one of the company's core values. HR prefers to ignore the root causes of labor discontent by dismissing rampant resignations as "well, that's just the way it goes in the Vancouver tech industry," ignoring all the red flags that people are leaving not just because of that's the way it goes in the Vancouver tech industry but because they are utterly fed up with the disorganization and rampant mismanagement this company continues to foster, right from the very top (CEO left in the summer, along with another executive senior leader) to grassroots. There is no succession plan when people leave, and the way the gap is filled is to merely bump the next person up the ladder regardless of whether that individual is skilled to take on a more senior role, which they are not. And there is no attempt made to skill-up once a promotion is given. The individual just bumbles along, clueless, to much cheer and fanfare from the rest of the team. Teams are shuffled around like a card deck when individuals leave and scant regard is paid to hiring skilled, qualified, experienced and mature people to do the jobs that are constantly going vacant. Software developers, the backbone of building the company's one and only product. are constantly leaving. Every department is losing team members each and every month, anywhere from 5 to nearly 20. And still, the company continues to peddle the myth that that's how it goes in the Vancouver tech industry. The North American sales team is woefully inadequate and inexperienced in closing deals. They chase after nearly every RFP with very little success to show for the effort it takes to put these labor intensive documents together. Trumpets are blown when there's a very rare win. Crickets when time and time again the sales team loses an opportunity. Mindless, childish team games are played weekly in the name of having fun. If you are relatively inexperienced and want to get a toe hold in your profession, PayByPhone will do it for you for a year or two maximum. Get your experience and move on. If you are highly skilled and experienced in your field. DO NOT apply to work at PayByPhone. You will become bored and frustrated very, very quickly with the immaturity and lack of professionalism all round. There are better opportunities out there that will appreciate professionalism, maturity and skills. This company will work you hard and rebuke you if you raise your voice to offer improvements or advice. "Quiet quitting" is your best course of action until you can find a better gig to move on to.

Pros

great people to work with.

Cons

My manager needs to get some courses in business writing. He does not have the management skills to be running our department and needs to stop wearing unicorn t-shirt.
