Pros

I've been working at Penzeys for over six years. I earn a decent salary for retail, but that is not why I comtinue to travel 35 miles each way to work. I have worked many years under very stressful conditions. Working at Penzeys is just the opposite...it is a lovely environment where I get to make people happy, give to them, and chat about food and life in general. Actually, that's all that's required of me ( other than keeping the store tidy and stocked). I am selling an excellent product ( oh, shall I mention that sales are never considered, discussed, or to be focused upon) at a great price, in an uber friendly enviroment. No pushy sales here...it is verboden. Enjoy your customer. Serve them well. Sheesh, is this hard to take? Yes, the company has it's quirks. Difinitive answers are a little hard to come by....it is still trying to be a small family shop with 72 locations. So be it. I really cannot understand some of the sentiment I have read here. Are you really looking to Penzeys to climb the corporate ladder? Really? Yes, Bill Penzey has taken to being quite poignant on his views via the catalog....part of me says "good on ya son" the other part say "whoa..you might upset some folk".Hey, Here's the deal...Bill has every right to voice his opinion in the publication that he publishes. :-)

Cons

Huh, no what so ever.

Pros

Great spices. I've learned a lot from variety of customers who love to cook.

Cons

Inflexible. Managers/supervisors are manipulative and condescending. The company treats the employees like NPC's. You are only valued if you agree with and do whatever they say. The niceness is just control in disguise. The companies Be Kind, Heal The World, Care propaganda does not extend to the employees. The CEO is full of himself. There's no autonomy. Takes great talented team members for granted.
