Pros

I was hired by Pharma Inventor (name) for a postdoctoral position, and we negotiated a salary over the phone that was $5500 CAD higher than the one initially offered. Despite some initial doubts about accepting the offer, I reached out to them for reassurance. They assured me not to worry, promising future opportunities for advancement within the company. Encouraged by this, I accepted the offer, booked my travel arrangements, and paid nearly $600 CAD for my ticket. However, I later discovered that my documents had been submitted to another agency without my permission in order to secure funding. This was because I was a new permanent resident eligible for specific grants available to companies hiring new permanent residents. When approached by the agency to sign the necessary documents, I was surprised by the situation. Attending a subsequent meeting, I sought clarification on whether accepting this funding would limit my ability to pursue other funding opportunities in the future. Unfortunately, the agency was unable to provide a satisfactory answer. Moreover, during my time with the company, I found that the salary they offered was relatively low, and they even decreased it once. Furthermore, they attempted to supplement some of my salary through this other agency, which raised concerns about the stability and reliability of my income. Ultimately, feeling uneasy about the situation and the lack of transparency, I made the decision to decline the offer, despite the financial loss incurred from my non-refundable travel expenses. It was evident to me that the development business manager of the company played a key role in influencing my decision, yet I chose not to file a formal complaint against them.

Cons
