Pros
Most intern tasks involve helping out the editors with fact-checking, making phone calls, and writing up transcriptions. You do have the opportunity to write and add to your byline, but you’ve got to be really proactive about it, self-pitch the piece, and work with the editor to make sure it’s something they really want to run.
Cons
It’s unpaid, and there was little to no collaboration in a remote format. I think I would have really enjoyed getting to know my fellow interns and supervisors — and seeing what their day looks like — in person, but remotely we had hardly any meetings or opportunities to interact. I’m still glad I did it though, because I did gain valuable experience.
