Pros

(Reference cons cuz the pros are not worth it). They have an annual trip to somewhere in the Caribbean. The one I went on was pretty luxe, and I heard that the year prior was even nicer. Also, the resort was all inclusive which was cool.

Cons

Starting out at Pointe, it seemed like a special place to work. Individuals there really pride themselves on their boutique culture, and the company has a great sales pitch at first. However, it's the most successful gaslighting of all time, and people really drink the cool aid. They'll tell you there's no turnover, but in my years at other firms, I've never seen as much as there was at Pointe. They'll tell you they care about your professional development, but really they just dangle this carrot of promotion and raises while they give you as much work as possible until they've burned you out. They'll tell you they have a great culture to offset work life balance issues, but there's so much general ignorance and insensitivity across the board (racial, sexual, etc.). And the work life balance issues are bad. Pointe practices and even jokes about pretty significant labor exploitation for employees with most working until 8 or 9 PM most nights. Execs at the firm will flippantly tell you that you can't make more money elsewhere and joke about enjoying the generally low work life balance because it means they're seeing more money. Since departing, I've reconnected with at least 3 other former employees who had similar exit interviews as mine, where Karl or Stuart have ridiculed our decisions to leave and dismissed the fact that we got higher offers elsewhere by insisting the growth potential is worse. I saw a meaningful bump in salary, but I would take less money to work somewhere else. None of the employees will say this to the new guy, but I don't know more than maybe 4 people at Pointe who truly stand by the culture outside of senior leadership, and I'd have serious concerns about the firm's longevity if I still worked there. Lastly, the backstabbing and gossip is severe. On multiple occasions, I had information that I thought was shared in confidence or interactions that I thought would stay between my manager and me thrown in my face by other leaders. It creates this culture of hypervigilance and compounds the already high stress of the remainder of the job. As much as I am appreciative for any role that I am offered, I'd encourage you not to apply for one with Pointe. For most, I think it would be detrimental to one's mental health and an extremely toxic experience.

First, thank you for your contributions during your time with Pointe. We wish you well in your next role. We appreciate your feedback and would like to provide a response to your review. Let us start with the pros. We are glad you enjoyed the company trip we took together. We have been doing the trip for years because of the authentic bonds and memories it facilitates for all – employees and their significant others. It takes significant planning effort and financial investment to make it happen but has always been worth it. We think there are other pros about working at Pointe that were not mentioned, but we will allow other reviews to highlight those. As for your list of cons, we think Pointe IS a special place to work. We have had several people return to the company after prior departures, which speaks for itself. Pointe is an environment that requires significant effort and hours. It is not a clock-in, clock-out, 9 to 5-type job, and that does not work for everyone. We acknowledge and accept that. Our clients are massive organizations who operate globally. It is challenging to maintain the right scale to match ever-increasing client demand. We have traditionally operated lean but have significantly increased our staff count in recent years, including support staff. Demand for our services has continued to outpace; we are fortunate to have such a challenge. Several large consulting firms over-hired in recent years, resulting in broad layoffs; we have never had to do that. There are times when we work late or on a weekend; that is not unique to Pointe, and it is in the service of our clients. In return, we offer flexibility on start times, a lenient PTO policy, partial work from home, bi-annual, financial performance incentives, and, as you noted, an expense-paid trip to a tropical location on a 12-to-18-month interval. Our compensation plan has meaningful, progressive, and attainable performance bonus opportunities in addition to salary. We will not dispute that some companies may offer a higher salary. However, we measure total compensation, salary + bonus + benefits, as a better comparison. We also offer salary increases for responsibility growth and at each level of promotion. It is difficult to address comments on backstabbing, gossip, or claims of “general ignorance and insensitivity” without knowing specifics. It is unfortunate if that was truly your experience. We do not perceive those characteristics to be common, nor central to Pointe culture. We would have preferred your experience at Pointe to be as positive and rewarding as it is for current employees; and was for other past employees. We appreciate the contributions you made while at Pointe and we wish you well in your future endeavors.

Pros

Pointe Advisory is a rare find in the consulting world. Pointe is at the right size where the culture is genuinely tight-knit (people are kind, caring, smart, and deeply intellectually curious) and there is career accelerating growth happening. The work and people are MBB quality but without layers of BS bureaucracy. Pointe is also highly meritocratic and you get real, direct feedback (from very smart leaders).

Cons

Pointe runs lean and you’ll likely find yourself wearing several hats at once. It can be a lot at times and it's not the right work environment for everyone. It's a good fit if you prioritize growing fast and gaining exposure quickly.

Thank you for taking the time to share comments about your positive experience at Pointe Advisory. It is encouraging to hear that our genuine emphasis on healthy and supporting culture is recognized and appreciated. We have a special environment, and each team member is responsible for maintaining and building on that culture for others. We do tend to run lean and give people the opportunity (and the responsibility) to gain experience across different functional roles. As we grow, we're adding more functional specialization. This will allow people to spend increased time on their best and highest use. Thank you for your honest comments and your many contributions.

Pros

Culture, community, work life balance, and work quality are all top notch. Very smart bunch of professionals with deep connections in the professional services world.

Cons

The company is young and still working out some kinks, including a recent shift in employee titles, but it still retains a start-up feel. Only active in specific markets, which leads to deep expertise but less opportunities for employees to learn other industries.

Thank you for your thoughtful review and most importantly, your suggestions for making Pointe even better. We're grateful to hear our entrepreneurial and agile culture is strong, apparent, and valued. We recognize changes in employee titles can be uneasy. The changes we made are intended to better align with the industry and increase recruiting success, particularly at the mid-level that you rightfully identify as a key contributor to balance. As we continue our growth path, we absolutely intend to expand our market exposure and offer new learning and development opportunities for all. Thank you for being a part of Pointe and we encourage you to share your ideas in 1:1s and/or share them freely with leadership.
