Is this your company?

A good ole boys club at best. - Software Developer Practical Software Solutions Employee Review

Pros

If you're looking for the equivalent of a full-time internship to start your career, it's not a terrible spot. You will get your feet wet in a lot of areas that are great resume boosters. Dress is casual. PTO and sick time are lenient and not closely tracked, and the management is generally understanding of emergencies (if you can handle the incessant jokes implying you were at a job interview while out.) Start-of-day time is lenient, which helps in the avoidance of what little traffic there is. Lunch for developers is provided on a nearly weekly basis. A company iPhone is provided with Verizon service.

Cons

As mentioned, the business is best described as a good ole boys club. If you don't know how to walk, talk, and act like the management, you won't even make it in the door. There is absolutely zero racial diversity, and approximately 10 males to each female employee. The pay is hilariously low compared to the market rate for software developers, and there is no clear path as far as future compensation other than a shady-at-best "bonus plan." The health insurance is essentially an HDHP, with an obscene deductible and an elective HSA. No retirement match. Training is also non-existent; expect to be handed a book and told to figure everything out for yourself. Middle management is in dire need of an ego check, and talks badly about employees behind their backs without expressing their concerns to the employee directly. Unpaid overtime is expected and mandatory during busy times. The office environment is old, drab, and depressing. Lastly, I hope you love Donald Trump, as politics are unnecessarily and frequently brought up in the workplace.

Pros

If you know one of the owners then you'll be fine. More laid back environment Traffic on the way is light.

Cons

If you don't know one of the owners prepare to be underpaid for your position for 5+ years before you start making anything close to market rate. Little to no training. Be prepared to read a book for a month then get thrown into the fire. No diversity in regards to race. Everyone is white Max base salary is around 60-70k even for senior employees. Everything else is in a bonus. So if the economy is doing well expect to make a decent amount but when its not expect that your share of the pay is going to drop dramatically.
