Pros
I read a few reviews on Glassdoor and was shocked at the almost personal attacks and vitriolic comments some of the ex-Praxians have made. I was furthermore shocked to see that a forum like Glassdoor would allow such near personal comments on people working with a well-respected company. So I thought I'll put across my thoughts. Employees have personal opinions of colleagues and the company. They have grudges; some share wonderful relationships with colleagues. I believe, while there's no need to be overzealous and over-friendly at work, one can at least maintain good working relationship with people one has to spend more than half of their waking time five days a week. Easier said than done! Some people have high opinions about themselves and they wish their colleagues treat them the same way their family members do at home. When such unrealistic expectations are not met at work, coupled with their inability to meet company's and superiors' expectations, they think people are being boorish, unfair and so on. Having worked in several companies I know for a fact that organizational culture does influence the way people behave at work. However, I also know that mostly people get what they usually are and deserve. So, why do I think Praxis Interactive Services (also known as Praxis Technologies) is a good place to work? Several reasons: 1. The location - SEEPZ, Andheri MIDC, (Mumbai) is one of the best locations with wide roads, ample parking space, lot of greenery, and a lake with a walking track around it. I could go on... 2. Work hours and days - flexible working hours and five-day week. Though sometimes people have to work over the weekends, they get comp offs or pay offs. 3. Pay: They don't pay awfully low or amazingly high salaries. Salaries are in the median range compared to the industry standards. And, are paid on time (usually on the last working day of the month). I appreciate this because I have worked for companies where getting salaries in the first week of the month guaranteed was a rare phenomenon. 4. Exposure to latest technology, ample opportunities to learn and grow. Although some politics goes on here too, I haven't seen instances of extremely bad politics. 5. People - I have seen the humane side of management (including directors) here. I have also met some of the finest people here (also some horrible people - but that does not balance my good experience. This may not be the best or even one of the best 100 or 500 companies in India, but it is not such a creepy place as some people have alleged it to be. Praxis makes you comfortable to the extent of making you complacent. You can grow here; and, if you can't - remember, you're not married to the company!
Cons
1. Infrastructure/Ambiance: Praxis certainly does not have excellent interiors, infra or ambiance. In some respects, it is average, in others it could be below. Again, I have seen some really world-class infrastructure not very far from where Praxis is located. And, I have been tempted to work for such a company just for their ambiance. But then, I tell myself, all that I will be taking home is the salary; when I move on, the work experience goes with me but small things such as infra are short-lived. 2. Favoritism: Though there's little explicit bias, there are favorites who get away with almost anything. The management may think people can't see it, they need to know that this practice does not bode well for the organization. 3. Hierarchy: Top management (yes, they're human and humane! yet,) do exhibit traits that support hierarchies. Marxists can see clear evidence of a class society here! Who doesn't feel uncomfortable when your superiors pass by you without acknowledging your presence. Like someone mentioned, you need to make a cut to get their attention. Even to exchange simple pleasantries, eh? 4. Slow paced: If you've lived on the fast track, this is not the place for you. Of course, all work is expected to be completed and submitted asap. But on the whole, the place appears a bit sleepy sometimes. My personal view, of course!
