Pros

The mission-driven nature of Preserve is present in every aspect of how the company operates. The leadership team is the kindest and most supportive that I have ever experienced in a professional setting. You truly become part of the Preserve family once you work there. The work-life balance is incredible; management supports and encourages you to have the time and energy to do the things you care about outside of work. Given the lean size of the company, you get exposure into many different aspects of the business, and often have the freedom to explore projects that you are personally interested in - something that is very unusual in a large, or even medium-sized company. If you like to roll up your sleeves and touch many projects, while knowing you're working for a pioneer in the field of sustainable business/social entrepreneurship, Preserve is a perfect fit.

Cons

Since Preserve is such a small company, there is limited structure and resources available to employees. Everyone, regardless of his or her role, wears many hats and so it can be difficult to remain focused on a project before getting pulled onto something else, making it challenging to prioritize and to feel like you're making progress on a specific project. The office is also very quiet and not the most dynamic environment, with many employees being part-time and the desks being spread out in a space that is not an open floor plan. If you're not willing or able to be scrappy and/or self-motivated, Preserve may not be the best fit for you.

Pros

If you're looking for an authentic, mission-driven, energetic, hands-on career, Preserve is the place to be! As an entrepreneurial company, you can truly get involved with several different projects that you may not have had exposure to in a big company. The Preserve team can feel like an extended family with potluck lunches, volunteer days and local events. The work life balance feels is truly achievable at Preserve. I was truly grateful for my experience working at this mission-company.

Cons

Whenever you have an entrepreneurial spirit, it can also come along with limited resources. If you don't want to book your own travel, make copies, transport large UPS shipments and roll up your sleeves, this is probably not the place for you. While Preserve may not be the most competitive with compensation and benefits, the leadership is happy to think creatively with you on performance payment structures. The more you do, the more it pays off. Some people may consider these cons if they got lost looking for easy street.
