Pros

It's a good way to practice and learn about professional proofreading

Cons

If you're working at a time other than your required weekly shift, it can be hard to snag submissions to work on, which means that even if you've spent time trying to get a submission, you won't get paid. Pros

You can work as much or as little as you want. You receive feedback from more experienced proofreaders.

Cons

You must memorize many aspects of many style guides. This can be overwhelming if you are just starting out.

Pros

Remote work...when there IS work available.

Cons

Where do I start? This company is a joke. As an entry-level proofreader, you have to wait til certain times to request "guaranteed availability" which you have to do or else they will nickel and dime you for using their job board, which never has work, and take from the money you have made when you do get work. If you don't monitor the queue 24/7, work is likely to get snatched up as soon as it comes through. The guaranteed hours take your time, but there's never any work and the hours are always overnight or early in the morning. Basically, they will do everything they can to get free work out of you and still charge you.
