Pros

Staff discount but honestly you would expect that. Some of the people who work there are nice but don’t stay around long enough

Cons

Where do I start. Whatever they promise you when accepting the job, forget it. 6 people have either left or been let go in the past few months, 3 of which were senior members of the team. 90% of people who join don’t last their probation. They use predominantly interns either without paying them or paying a small fee each month on the basis that they will gain experience for 6 months but in reality they use them as workers and made to do the labour intensive boring tasks or the people they report into get them to do the work they should be doing. Every intern I spoke to hated it. During all the lockdowns except the last all the marketing team were sent an email telling them they can choose to work from home but doing so would impact their careers (in a nice way saying you need to work in the office and if you don’t you will be treated less better then others) even though it was instructed by the government to work from home. Don’t believe the positive reviews the CMO asked her team to put positive reviews on Glass Door because of the previous bad ones. (Notice 4 positive review in one day) Everything is done on a penny pinching budget but they want to scale the business to achieve multiple millions in turnover. Every expense has to be signed off and you don’t have any control. The CEO doesn’t really get involved in marketing which is the worst team to be on and probably doesn’t realise how bad things are. The CMO has all the control, nothing happens without their say so. The CMO decides who you can hire, which software you can use, who you can work with. People are put in charge of “teams” but in reality the have to go to the CMO in relation to anything to do with their team. If the CMO doesn’t like someone they are gone. In the words of the CMO - “ if people want to leave let them leave I’m not begging” The C Level team doesn’t have a problem emailing at night or the weekend and still expecting a reply. If you don’t reply even when you’re on holiday they will make it clear that they are not happy. CMO will ask the same question multiple times and still not understand the answer bordering on ridiculous. Meetings at 7am or 7pm are normal. Not getting replies to simple things from the main C Level team is very normal, but if they message you they expect a reply straight away. The C Level team has unfortunately groomed people to work 24/7) and are a clique. Working at 6am is praised as a good thing btw. Their excuse when someone leaves is they are not a culture fit but in reality only they are part of the culture they describe. In the office if you go out for lunch for an hour you get dirty looks (you get an hour) people are scared so eat at their desk. It’s a horrible atmosphere, people don’t speak to each other, even international interns are shocked and asked me of this normal for UK businesses. They try to launch new brands but don’t have the main brand or team in check so it’s no surprise the new brands do not do well. All projects relate back to the CEO and CMO and guess what every project had been badly behind schedule or delayed and they try to blame the teams but in all honesty it is them. 90% of the marketing team are looking for new jobs, the asia team has pretty much all left and the internal tech team are all but gone. I could go on but actually think this is important information for the current investors who are not aware of how bad things are plus people who are looking to join. Don’t say I didn’t warn you!

Pros

Protein Works has a really welcoming team and supportive environment. Their open-door culture means you get great exposure across different areas of the business and everyone is happy to help if you have questions or want to learn more. Their new modern office is also an additional bonus! Unfortunately I had to go back to University after my internship, but would definitely go back. I strongly recommend working at PW!

Cons

There are no cons to note.
