Pros

The company has a large network of well known international organizations. They constantly have positions for English speaking people.

My experience working with Unique in-house at Shell is simply terrible. In short, it is a very disorganized and unreliable recruitment agency with no moral or work ethics. Working with them for almost 2 years now I have experienced great problems. Starting with signing my first contract they tried to trick me by putting lower hourly salary wage than we have agreed and changing the contract they had sent me for review before signing. After reporting the problem to my future (now current) Line Manager and after her visiting Unique's office they agreed to correct it. And the problems didn't finish there. Almost every other salary slip I was getting was mistaken. They will omit some of my working hours or travel expenses, even sometimes a whole week would be missing from my pay slip, or over-hours would be calculated as normal hours and not as overtime. This caused me visiting the office almost every month. Another problem I encountered was when I asked them to provide me with a "werkgeversverklaring". The numbers regarding my income were filled in incorrectly. They had to fill in the form four times before they could make the correct calculations. Submitting three times false employer statement raised a suspicion and the bank requested a write explanation of the mismatching numbers. Unique then refused to write the statement and at the end the bank refused to give me a mortgage due to unreliable employer statement. As I initially relied on my employer for providing me with the necessary documents, I had started a procedure for buying a property. At the end, providing me with false forms and then backing off caused me losing more than 3000 euro. And the unpleasant experience does not seem to finish. I have a Phase B contract with Unique which means that they need to help me find a new placement after my temporary assignment is finished. In case I have a gap between two placements they need to pay me salary as I would be still employed by them. What happened now is that they do not want to take the responsibility to have me hired by them longer than my assignment date, so they are not obliged to pay me anything if I do not have a secure assignment. Thus, they offered me instead of a normal 6 months contract as usually, just a six week contract, which ends on the same date as the date of my assignment. In this way they get secured that they will not end up paying me if I do not have an assignment. They just made sure their obligations end at the same time I stop being beneficial for them. I understand this as they are purely profit oriented company and employees are just treated as numbers. However, working for Shell almost 2 years now this company does not seem to be in line with Shell Code of conduct, they have no moral or work ethic, not to say any values. The only reason I am still working with them is because I enjoy my work at Shell.

Pros

In private, most of the employees at the Head Office are really nice people and fun to hang out with.

Cons

Middle management has no leadership and absolutely no management capabilities. No frameworks, no professional structures available. The whole management layer is a chaos. Top management gets paid millions in stocks, salaries... the rest is paid mediocre if not underpaid. That results in the poorest work ethics that I had ever seen. And of course, you get what you pay for. So mediocre environment, mediocre people.
