Pros

The people at RIM are great. Most of the people at RIM are very experienced and care about their jobs. There is very little micromanaging going on because RIM expects its employees to act like adults and to know how to do their jobs. That being said, it's definitely a culture that encourages questions and collaboration, so you are not hung out to dry. You just have a lot more freedom. Management makes a point to get to know all employees and asks for employee feedback frequently.

Cons

Management can sometimes be resistant to negative feedback. I feel that management says all the right things about company culture and how we should operate as a company but there is very little follow through. For example, RIM claims to provide good work/life balance but publicly praises people who work long hours or who work on holidays and weekends. It is my opinion that if you are working nights and weekends just to get through your normal workload, there is a staffing issue. Also, some of the things the CEO says on the weekly calls are offensive. I am sure it is not his intention and there was at least one instance where he apologized. But with a listening audience of 150+ people on an average call, he should choose his words more carefully.

Pros

The new office was nice, and the leadership team truly seemed supportive and appreciative of the interns. We had lunch and weekly meetings with the president and other senior leaders, which made it clear they cared about our growth. There was also plenty of workplace training, including support that helped me earn my CargoWise certification.

Cons

While I had interesting, useful, and hands-on projects to do sometimes, there would be days, sometimes multiple in a row where I had little work to do, and it would be very boring busywork. Also, pay for interns was only $17 an hour and we only came in 20 hours a week.
