Pros

Raytheon IIS in Garland has a reputation of having the best engineers when compared to other defense contractors and commercial companies. Most of the engineers and program mangement staff are very pleasant people to work with. Engineers are often paid overtime on programs. The work is sometimes very technically challenging. Many employees are very ethical. The health care benefit is very good. The retirement benefit for the legacy E-Systems employees is excellent, which causes mid-career and older employees to be tied down to Raytheon.

Cons

First line supervisors and managers are extremely poor at their job. Performance reviews may be performed by a supervisor/manager which the employee has had little to no contact. It is very difficult to get a promotion. Many engineers, in order to maintain their lock on job/domain knowledge, will not share any information. Engineers are responsible for networking to find their next assignment. There is almost no technical training budget for employees. The company allows family members to be in the same organizational chain of command.

Pros

I worked at Raytheon for over 4 years and had a great experience. The company provided many learning and growth opportunities. I was promoted twice during my tenure with the company, and my responsibility increased significantly. I felt like my management supported me and provided me with the career mentorship that I was seeking. I felt empowered and respected during my time there.

Cons

It can be difficult to work at such a large defense contractor company because of all the process and red tape. Things can move slowly, you have to be patient and pick your battles. That being said, if you learn how to work within the system, you can make a significant impact here!
