Pros

-Working with clients -Camaraderie with fellow advocates -4 weeks PTO

Cons

-Needs way more training for advocates -Burnout is very quick, those who are able to stay longer are usually married and not the financial provider for their household -Almost impossible not to take the work home -I received unwarranted preferential treatment compared to other employees who worked more and harder -Law enforcement make every step harder than necessary

Pros

Extensive training, supportive staff all around, supportive community of peers, and it felt collaborative. There was always an opportunity to learn or ask questions, and it felt inviting.

Cons

I was a volunteer and didn't experience any negative situations during my time there.

Pros

Helps survivors and San Mateo community

Cons

Amazing people with the best intentions start a career at RTS, only to experience micromanagement, poor communication and hostile work environments at the hands of higher management. Higher management has created unethical practices that create toxic environments for their employees. The two person higher management team are very quick to fire people, particularly employees of color. People are often hesitant to bring up concerns or questions out of fear of being chastised. The high turnover rate and large quantity of job openings is simply because of higher management. San Mateo county is very diverse and I wish that RTS management strived to have staff be just as diverse as the community they serve. RTS has a great mission and as an organization makes a lasting impact on the community. Unfortunately, management is negatively impacting that through how they treat their employees.
