Pros

1) Very friendly co-workers 2) Excellent Work/Personal Life Balance - Your workday is eight hours AT MOST and the company is very flexible with time off; as long as your work is getting completed. At previous companies where I have worked it can be extremely difficult to schedule doctor appointments. I found it to be very kind of R Best management to allow me to come in a little late or leave early so I can take care of personal items. I was also able to take time off for my children's school events, again it was my responsibility to make sure my work was covered by a co-worker or I spent extra time on other days to get my work completed in the necessary time frame. 3) You should consider working for this company if you are like me, someone who is not lazy and someone who knows when you're at work, work needs to get done. If you have motivation to learn more and take on more responsibilities this is a great company. 4) Job for Life, this company does not get rid of personnel who get their job done correctly. As long as you are someone who comes in when you're scheduled to and you get your work done in the expected time frame you will not have worry about being fired. This is a big perk as you hear people working in larger company's being fired due to lay-offs. It's great working for a family owned company because the owners are actively part of the day-to-day operations they get to know you. It shows they care about your personal time and are very flexible (again as long as the work is getting done). 5) Learning - I can only speak for my positions in the Admin and Accounting departments. There were a lot of opportunities to learn many different roles and responsibilities. In my years with the company I learned all aspects of the reception position and functions. I also learned administrative support for the sales department. The most challenging was learning accounting. I did not go to school for it and had no prior experience but the Controller gave me a foundation of Excel (which I did not know how to use at all) and provided me with basic accounting functions like debits and credits and understanding chart of accounts. I also learned how to organize and keep track of Accounts Payable and daily reconciliations. Management definitely puts in the time to train someone. 6) If you are an hourly employee and if you get your work done and there is nothing left for you to learn or take care of, you can leave early (obviously you won't get paid) but it's a great perk if you have personal items to take care of. 7) You can purchase fruit/vegetables at almost the same cost to the company. 8) Allowed to take two week vacations 9) They started to do lunchtime BBQ during summer and other company sponsored lunches for the holidays (x-mas) and Pot Luck Thanksgiving. 10) Costumes worn by office staff for Halloween

Cons

Wish they gave more PTO and higher bonuses. No 401k Matching. Smaller company (office staff about 20 people). You cannot grow "up the ladder" because it is a smaller company, but you can grow the amount of knowledge and responsibilities which did lead to some increases in my years. Scheduling vacations can be difficult as you cannot take a vacation during the same time someone else schedules vacation if they are your backup and vice versa. (they use seniority when scheduling time off). Traffic can be bad in the Roslyn/Port Washington Area, especially if there is snow

Pros

Wonderful under-appreciated coworkers. The bosses were great. Philip, Jimmy, and Lou (no longer there) I did learn a lot which I'm appreciative for (but that's a given in any new work place) but it wasn't worth my happiness, anxiety, stress, time and efforts. I felt very under-appreciated and taken advantage of which made me want to do less than more.

Cons

Management. Seems to lack experience and there is no HR. (I believe he also was the one who submitted or authorized all the other "reviews" on Glassdoor which made me compelled to share my honest two cents because that’s pretty petty. Also not sure how they were able to remove another negative rated review in the past. Really shows what they spend their time worrying about. I hope my review will fare longer. There needs to be some drastic changes that need to be made within the company walls other than covering it up with fake 5 star reviews online. I won't get into the specifics but trust me when I say, beware. Read the article I've mentioned on the section "Advice to Management" to get a better idea of what goes on at R-Best.
