Pros

A lot of talented and passionate people in the dev team (or what's left of it). Extra days off on certain holidays.

Cons

Toxic management protecting racist and sexist elements, firing anyone opposing or even remotely questioning the direction and their decisions. Creative director is a baby with an inflated ego and zero vision, throwing tantrums and lashing at people at the first inconvenience. He is also responsible for tanking their first game through terrible decision making and working behind people's back. Unable to pitch ideas and rally people, not surprising considering those people stopped playing games 15 years ago. Studio manager is either a blatant liar or most incompetent person to helm the studio (or both), deflecting serious questions and playing on people's emotions. HR Director nowhere to be seen for the past year, including during the 2 waves of layoffs. The only HR resources who cared about the employees were let go for for trying to improve things. Pay equity is non-existent despite their best effort to gaslight you into thinking you're making too much for your range when you're clearly not. Promotions are awarded to people who promise the most and deliver the less, results don't matter. Removal of yearly bonus since Bandai bought the company, and the new office is a huge stepdown from their previous location. Don't let their fake 5* reviews fool you, this is currently the worst gaming studio in Montreal, there is nothing to save here.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts about your former colleagues, Reflector’s management, and your time with the company. I'm sorry that you didn't have a positive experience. I agree with you, the team behind our first IP and video game consisted of a group of incredibly talented and passionate people. And although the road to release included many challenges, this dedicated group continuously gave it their all until the final delivery. Regarding your comments about certain members of the management team, it's unfortunate to read such negative remarks that seem fueled by what I can only perceive as extreme anger. Blaming, shaming, and other similar forms of disrespect are the antithesis of what Reflector stands for. These behaviours go against our values and have not, nor will ever, be tolerated in the Reflector community. Targeting specific people in an attempt to discredit their abilities in a public forum is a form of reputational sabotage that we will not encourage or engage with. I also want to reiterate that we take any allegations of racism and sexism very seriously. I encourage you to reach out to the HR team directly to provide more detail about the situations you reference in your review so that they can investigate and address any tangible matters immediately. I wish you the best in your future endeavors. Marc André Séguin, Studio General Manager

Pros

Reflector is a good place to work. People are humans and professionals. The salary is "good" Advantages are good (reer, vacation, etc.) Projects are good

Cons

Projects are often driven purely by creativity, with a tendency to exclude technical experts from early discussions out of fear they might impose limitations. However, good creatives should embrace working within a technical framework rather than defining it in isolation. Too often, technical teams are brought in only to solve problems caused by earlier decisions, instead of being involved from the start to help build something stronger, smarter, and more efficient.

Thank you for your honest and constructive review. I'm pleased to read of your favourable outlook regarding Reflector's work environment, its team, and its advantages during your time at the studio. As for studio processes, I agree that a team's creative and technical experts must establish tight collaboration from a project's outset. You'll be happy to hear that cross-functional synergy is improving daily, and we will continue to foster collaboration across creative and technical teams as our current project advances. It means a lot that you continue to believe in Reflector's potential. I can assure you that we are on the right track! Wishing you all the best.

Pros

Lot of PTO and vacations (Reflector Days)

Cons

Mind you I stopped working there 2 years ago, but while I was there, there were sooo many senior and completely detached employees with big egos, low insight and research workflows, which led to a fractured company, failing product and culture, and lots of unhappy people. Hope it changed since then, I would definitely ask something related to these topics if you ever interview there to make sure it's going better now.

Lena David Partenaire d'affaires, RH
