Great relationship with the FD, was trusted to perform and take a step up in my career. The business is well set up with some great people and the support of a well manned IT function. For the most part had enough freedom to say that if I didn't like my job after 12 months in it it would be my own fault, something you cannot take for granted.

Depends on which part of the group you work for, the main con for me was the cyclical nature of the industry I worked in. Building teams up in the boom phase to cut them in the bust.

You gain experience and meet some good people

They say they are a family run business like it's a good thing but they show little care for those who work there that aren't from money and in higher up roles. The HR system is against the employer and works on a 'your word against theirs' basis.
