Pros

*One of the only options for non-remote employment in this area for those with advanced degrees *Benefits are reasonable but not as good as they once were for teachers *You know you are making a difference in the community *Good chance to make connections if you aren't a raised-in-the-valley local

Cons

*the administration is inept and has created a dysfunctional culture where teachers have low morale and have no support *teacher receive negative feedback only, and no support or suggestions for success *the admin has confusing expectations for students-- on the one hand they tell us students are "low" and below grade level so need support, on the other, the curriculum they mandate is designed for classrooms where students are above or at minimum at grade level and have a high level of motivation. Admin expects students to grasp advanced concepts before they even have an understanding of basic skills needed to succeed in their subject. *school culture - the entire vibe- is one of depression, stress, struggles.... it's a terrible environment for any human- kids, teachers, janitorial staff, anyone *the pay is so low you can barely afford cost of living (if that), it's one of the lowest pay scales for a teacher in the State of NH - this is especially true with recent 8% inflation rates. *there is next to no affordable housing in this area.... almost zero rentals, and houses are all over-priced due to pandemic refugees from cities buying second homes *the principal sets the bar low academically and behaviorally and has many excuses as to why so few kids are at grade level and why test scores are so low (some of the lowest in the State of NH) *the turnover rate this year for teachers sits at about 30% *the turnover rate for one Department sits at 66% and now I know why! Chronically... *student behavior is excused and students are not held accountable *there are no consequences for student behavior *very few teachers have been there for more than a few years. Those that have been there have lost the will to live.... I mean teach to any sort of grade-level standard. They entertain and babysit the kids will teaching at about 2-3 grade levels below
