Pros
- Because it’s a small company, you have the opportunity to work on projects and engage with colleagues in different areas of the investment group – Equities, Fixed Income, Hedge Funds, Private Equity, etc. That type of exposure is unparalleled, and something you’ll have difficulty finding anywhere else. - You are given a considerable amount of responsibility, and with that, opportunities to further yourself academically and personally (my own investment acumen improved significantly – partly due to the cross-exposure to different asset classes; and feedback I received from my manager helped me develop and recognize areas where I was lacking / could use additional work). - Interaction / exposure to seasoned, smart investment professionals. There are a lot of bright people at this company, and the vast majority of them are very approachable. - Good atmosphere, and great people – they’re not afraid to stick their head out and help you career-wise.
Cons
- I know it has already been said in previous reviews, but you have to be motivated and a self-starter. I didn’t find this to be an issue, but if you’re not motivated, then it’s very easy to grind day in, day out, and not get anything out of the job, which isn’t fun for anyone.
