Pros

Looks good on resume Travel opportunities if you like locations off the beaten path Pay can be good if you are international staff Opportunity to work with some very smart people (though job rarely requires great mental ability) Training is good

Cons

Work life balance is almost non existent Crazy working hours Support staff is expendable International staff vs Home country staff salary/benefits packages totally out of whack Training/expertise gained is in extremely narrow field Lack of professional development outside Schlumberger competency areas. E.g. They hire a lot of electronic engineers but you will probably never attain status in professional bodies.

Pros

Good people at the local level. The work is engaging and challenging.

Cons

Too many to count. Career advancements are extremely limited. Pay raises are minimal and don't get close to keeping up with inflation even for top performers. At the corporate level they are using acquisitions to hide massive layoffs. They return billions in profit to investors consistently, but there is still a constant threat of layoffs and multiyear freezes on pay raises even with inflation and solid corporate profit.
