Pros

I really loved the passion and intensity that the scientists, RA’s, software engineers, project managers, and generally all non-executive staff who I was able to meet and work with. They all were really motivated, smart, resourceful and kind. Walking out for my own sanity made me feel guilty for letting them down, knowing the difficulties and issues they had shared with me, and my hopes to make things more simple and easier. They deserve better, and those who got laid off in retaliation for speaking up or quit from frustration as well deserve even better because seer failed them and they were the greatest talent Seer had.

Cons

I can’t believe I had to actually say this TWICE to multiple people in the last hour before walking out. “Am I being discriminated against? Is this because I’m a woman? Because I’m Hispanic? Because I’m young? Because I don’t have a PhD? Because I have a disability?” And “If I was a PhD researcher, and I knew about the issues I found in just a few months of being here, I wouldn’t touch this product with a 10 ft pole and tell all my science buddies to not trust it either.” I walked out because Product Development refused to fix their issues with their product on the market, or roll out an update to fix it, because that “would require work.” And addressing the issues higher up resulted in verbal abuse and physical intimidation until I decided enough was enough. Research and Apps labs were perfectly fine. So helpful and kind. I was told following basic laboratory practices and safety compliance was too high standard for seer. I was hired on told that the lab manager position was a new role. WRONG, the previous lab manager stepped down because of the same issues that made me walk out. Instead of hearing me complain about my personal experience, if you are considering apply, I encourage you to spend 2 minutes watching “Dennis Orders Bubble Tea” on YouTube to see a clip from it’s always sunny in Philadelphia. Even this small clip is the most accurate representation of how messy and ridiculous this company is for absolutely no reason and how stressful it is for someone. It’s not that hard to run a business. They claim it’s because it’s a start up, but I’ve worked at “creating new emails weekly to use software trials” start-ups at the beginning of their journey and they had their company more put together and quickly got acquired by one of the industry giants.

Pros

- The science and technology behind the product is genuinely interesting - Some good people at the individual contributor level

Cons

- Quarterly layoffs have become a pattern — do your research before accepting an offer here. - Read the public news — the CEO has collected millions in compensation and equity while the stock has declined nearly 97% since IPO and employees lose their jobs every quarter. - Leadership pipelines are broken. People are placed in director and management roles without the emotional intelligence or communication skills to lead effectively. - Expects optimal field performance with a product that has significant out-of-box issues, then points the finger at employees when things go wrong. - Individuals are sent out with software full of bugs, Error-ridden manuals they've never seen before, and instruments that have barely been validated internally — then held to a standard of perfect customer performance. The gap between what they give you and what they expect from you is staggering. - Management will document grievances about you to HR without ever having a direct conversation about what needs to change — all while praising your performance to your face. - Active shareholder lawsuit against the board. Profitability not expected until 2031. Draw your own conclusions. Seriously. - Highly, HIGHLY recommend exploring other platforms before committing.
