Pros

The work environment is wide open with a nice view of Michigan Ave. from the sixth floor. There's free coffee and soda. The workflow is streamlined to where it is easy to move on to the next project once the previous one is completed. If you have any questions, the managers are very approachable and open to helping. It is a very stress-free environment.

Cons

Many people keep to themselves and focus on their computers. On one hand the lack of interaction between co-workers allows you to keep to yourself and finish the work unhindered. However, the sense of community and camaraderie isn't really there.

Cons

Since the time Shoplocal lost some big clients, a lot of pressure is put on the Sales team to generate revenue. Client Services Directors (BA) bring in poor requirements to the developers. The IT team follows agile with 9 day sprint, but it is not enough time to work on something that is not well defined. People are very burnt out, the same complaints are mentioned in the retrospection meetings. 6 developers, 3 QA, 2 designers and several CSD and several senior management, who have been with the company for 12 years, have left the company within past 3 years. There is no way to grow here. Management/ pmo/ tech leads are indifferent about making people work long hours. There is favoritism and only certain people get recognized and made to grow. The environment is stressful to work in most departments Compensation is not great for the amount of labor pushed on people. Certain project managers are not experienced and annoying to work with. The company is moving all the .NET code to Python. It is disappointing when one is hired to code in .NET and will be made to code in totally different language.
