Pros

The people at the company are great to work with! Being a small company, if you want you're able to wear many hats and branch out. Great health benefits.

Cons

There's not much room to grow -- position/title wise. No 401K match.

Thank you for your comments! We agree with you that the group of people we have working at SVM are great to work with and each person is extraordinary in their own way. We also agree that everyone in the company is encouraged to branch out and move in a direction that most interests them. It is amazing what we achieve with the collective talent within our group. Our company grows and prospers more every year. We are entering our 30th year and we have never had and unprofitable year. Due to the amazing team of people we have (and many long-term employees) we have succeeded in every economy, up or down, throughout our 30-year history. Thank you for commenting on our benefits package. With health, dental, vision, 401k and more, we pride ourselves on having a benefits package similar to or better than many companies throughout the silicon valley -- and we are always endeavoring to improve and enhance it.In terms of growth within the company, here are some examples of people who were promoted within the company during the past year. Our Purchasing Manager was promoted to Director of Operations. A Customer Service person who requested to move into Purchasing was moved there and later promoted to Purchasing Manager. Another employee was promoted from Material Handler to Warehouse Manager. A Customer Service person was promoted to Warehouse Supervisor. A Material Handler in our warehouse was promoted to QA Associate. Another Material Handler became Head of Receiving. All of these promotions occurred within the last year and all of these were people moving within the organization -- not hiring from the outside. Our goal is always to listen to our coworkers throughout the company and help them move in the direction they want to move in. In regards to a 401K matching program, we are looking into this and will provide updates later on.Thank you again for your comments!

Pros

- Coworkers are great and like family. - Unlimited potential upside in sales position. Sales managers make a 20% commission of the margin that they bring in for the company. There is no cap on commission so if you work hard enough you can make some serious money. - Once you are established as a Sales Manager with a good base of accounts, you have a lot of flexibility to work remotely or in a hybrid capacity. - I've gotten to travel the world to lots of amazing places meeting with customers. All throughout Europe and Asia.

Cons

- Mostly hands-off management style. This can be a plus but if you are not the best self-starter then you may struggle. - Poor work/Life balance. You are expected to always be available/working and answer emails from customers promptly, even if it is the weekend or after hours. We work with customers around the globe so it's not uncommon to have business calls in the early morning (Europe) or late afternoon/night (Asia).

Pros

I have worked at SVM for over 14 years and it is an excellent company to work for. SVM is a company that cares a lot about its employees and the environment. One of the things I like about SVM is that it is a green company. Not only does SVM recycle - bottles, cans, paper, cardboard, packing material, etc., we also look to make improvements to our building to help the environment and save cost. About 90% of the power we use comes from our rooftop and carport solar panels, all installed by our sister company, Vista Solar. SVM also installed electric car chargers under the carport free for employees to use and charge their vehicles. More recently because of the drought, the company installed artificial grass and also a new internet-based watering system that only waters when plants need water. Several years ago, the company switched out nearly all of our lights, both inside and outside the building, to LED - a big project but a big cost-savings measure. Bottom line is that SVM is both environmentally friendly company and a great company to work for.

Cons

Like most companies, SVM see fluctuations in the marketplace from time to time. So there can be up and downs. However, since SVM is a small company, we have been able to come together as a team to adapt and change with the market to stay profitable and successful no matter what the market conditions are.
