Pros
The hours are 9-5. Coming in early or staying late is actually "frowned upon" because employees are not given keys.
Cons
I have worked in several corporate settings without an issue. Upon hire at SmartMark Communications, I thought (and was led to believe) that the place was fitting for a PR professional like myself and the position was going to be my next career move. I could not have been more wrong. The phone system is actually a perfect example. Literally every name for each extension has been crossed off and re-written at least once because so many people have been fired or quit...but mostly fired. It's a small company and a lot of the employees are good people, I feel bad for them. The new ones do not realize how dispensable they are, but the very few that have managed to survive in that office for more than a few months are not to be trusted. The company has no culture. It's definitely an "every man for himself" kind of place. But the worst part about this place by far is the CEO. She is literally incapable of communicating to her employees without belittling them. I believe someone below me called her a monster, which is very accurate. Furthermore, I am positive she asked those very few employees I mentioned that have been there for more than 3 months (because she does not keep most people around long enough to qualify for her crappy health insurance) to write the 5 star reviews. Which is what prompted me to write this, because people deserve to know the truth. If you are seeking your next long-term opportunity in PR, please do not look for it here. You will be miserable every day.
