Pros

Relatively close to home. Pay check.

Cons

Dirty, hot, old building and offices, small, no lunchroom, remote, no cafe or local restaurant. Pay and benefits marginal, management were not trained or experienced in PMAC, or knew anything about inventory management or strategies in supply chain. Tactical at best. Filing PO’s all in paper. Control freaks and a really oppressive environment for staff. Local nepotism is rampant. Small town, locals only work there. Old school - work harder not smarter.

Pros

Company has been in business (through ups and downs) for 100 years or so. Employ's "locals" and seems to make money and supports the regional economy within an industry format. Operations Manager is great, really liked (retired) Engineering Manager too. These guys knew their stuff and were fair, open, updated.

Cons

Dirty, hot and decrepit place to work. Office staff rarely venture into the "plant". Plant staff I don't know how they can stand the humidity and machines and steam etc., along with old infrastructure, lack of capital investment and the lack of training, and/or new ideas that it is well overdue. Seems that many in management especially supply chain dept. were recruited on the bases of who they knew and/or strength / personal attributes rather than on what they (should) know in supply chain management. They are definitely a tactical culture there. They have no experience in strategic procurement/logistic process and/or no credentials to back it up. They also seem to require some ethical training of what is acceptable and what (if only perception) is allowable these days. Very hieratical environment. Old school mentality in most departments. Especially, maintenance and supply chain.
