Pros

The only pros to my time at Summit were the other teachers I met (although sadly many came and went when I was there) and the students.

Cons

There are far too many to list. There was a complete lack of support and respect from head office, and yet the expectations of teachers continued to rise. Teachers cared for their students, most of which had suffered a workplace injury and were being retrained, but I found there to be a lack of respect for these students and their struggles by management. A lot of the material I was expected to use hadn't been updated so that was frustrating as well. I'm not sure why the owner continues with this business... he obviously doesn't care about it and could rarely be seen. I saw the spirits of so many good people get broken while there, and only thrive once they left.

Pros

As a recent University Graduate from McMaster University, I was extremely happy to have received an offer of employment from Summit College. Summit College helped me learn more about office administration and student admissions, human resources roles (including, recruiting, hiring, training, screening, and so on). I am very thankful for my time at Summit as I learned a lot and the experience lead me to a new career at McMaster University. Since Summit was taken over by new management in 2015 the company has significantly improved. The company has been working on re-branding as well as re-establishing as an educational institution. Prior to the change in management, the company was not a good place to work. The new management and GM that took over had a big focus on personal and professional development of employees and valued lifelong learning. Overall, Summit is a really good place to work if you are just starting out in your career. The pay is fairly decent for someone fresh out of University or College and it is a solid, small, team environment to be a part of.

Cons

When enrollment isn't extremely demanding or hiring new employees is not a huge priority, there can be a lack of jobs to complete. For the most part, management is good at assigning special projects during slow weeks but there were times where I felt that I wasn't being challenged.
