Pros

• A few genuinely outstanding colleagues who are knowledgeable, supportive, and keep things running despite the challenges. • Exposure to a wide variety of issues and technologies (out of necessity rather than design).

Cons

• Infrastructure team of only ~6 people supporting a 7,000+ employee company. • On-call burden falls on a single person at a time, often requiring work well outside your remit. • Pay reviews are yearly but increases are negligible (1.5–2%), with salary bands stagnant for 5+ years. • Severe lack of IT investment: critical systems run well past end-of-life with no clear upgrade plans. • High turnover – about half the IT team has left in the last three years through redundancy or attrition. • Lack of ownership and direction at the structural level, leaving remaining staff stretched thin.
