Pros

You will work with some of the best experts in the field and be surrounded by very smart staff. Genuinely nice people and the chance to help shape EC, OECD and National policy in many areas. Some of the alumni are very impressive (everything from Members of Parliament to head of OECD S&T Indicators division)

Cons

A lot of public sector work can be demoralizing. The hours can be long and the travel can be a pain. As with all rapidly growing companies life can be frantic at times.

Pros

Good exposure to policy projects across sectors. Collaborative team. Work with EC. Meaningful work that impacts policy making.

Cons

Extremely disorganised workplace where many staff have research/academic backgrounds that translate poorly to managing projects and people effectively, while most partners remain inactive in office management and the main manager is rarely present. The absence of HR means no conflict resolution processes exist, allowing managers to avoid responsibility and look after staff well-being. Cultural insensitivity and diversity issues are routinely ignored in this quick-burnout environment characterised by constant staff turnover, with younger employees consistently overworked to compensate for poor planning. Management fundamentally lacks basic leadership and emotional skills, with promotions based primarily on liquidity capacity.
