Pros

Described by a competitor as "small but serious" the team prides itself on technical expertise, and is one of the leading sources of knowledge and understanding on the US carbon markets. The CEO is an experienced manager in both environmental and non-environmental capacities, and the company includes community outreach as a core principle, maintaining a blog that everyone contributes to, as well as a retail operation selling carbon offsets.

Cons

As a small company there isn't a lot of mobility within the company. Also like any environmental company the business is pretty dependent on the regulatory situation, which in this case includes the California and potential federal cap and trade carbon emissions reductions systems. If you aren't comfortable with the idea that the company is partly dependent on the right legislation being passed, it might be a little stressful to work here.

Pros

Work on a big problem, fighting climate change, in a business atmosphere. Also work on something genuinely new in carbon markets. The company has been through a lot of changes but is now a recognized name in the US carbon offset world, which is satisfying. Plus it's a group of people who share a real passion for the environment, and for making a difference in the fight against global warming, which makes it a pretty collegial place.

Cons

Small company, so we don't have all the infrastructure and resources a bigger company would have. We're also somewhat more exposed to the ups and downs of the markets than a bigger company with more lines of business would be.
