Pros

Students are generally kind, compassionate, and thoughtful, with strong intellectual abilities. Behavioral issues are rare, and the student culture is respectful. Teachers are usually treated well by students and families, which makes day-to-day classroom management relatively smooth.

Cons

In its early years, the school operated with a startup mindset that prioritized rapid growth over stability. Mid-year firings hurt morale and created an environment where overly assertive or manipulative behavior could thrive. More recently, leadership changes have pushed the school toward a more standardized, rigor-focused model, and some of the original creativity and flexibility has been lost. Newly admitted families tend to be increasingly competitive, which affects the overall community tone.

Pros

Many teachers tried hard despite all the challenges

Cons

Even before the Wall Street Journal article about Tessellations made us the laughingstock of the Bay Area, there were so many problems. Ineffective leadership at the top. Endless meetings. Overbearing parents. Teachers and staff quitting or getting fired every year. Kids getting hurt. Families withdrawing their kids midyear. Licensing violations. Schedules and curriculum changing every year. Ongoing lawsuits by 3 former teachers and 1 family. Shutting down the high school with zero notice to families. Giving up giftedness screening to boost enrollment.
